The Boyan from Bawean
Baweanese began emigrating to Singapore in the early 19th century. Today, a Baweanese-language program is a regular feature on the government radio and Baweanese translators are available in the law court.

THE Chinese and Europeans in Singapore and Malaysia, unable to correctly pronounce the name in their tongue, simply call the Baweanese ‘Boyan.’ In Malaysia, Baweanese communities are found from Ampang to Gombak, Balakong, and Shah Alam in Lembah Klang. between Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.
