Minister Tjahjo’s Controversies

HOME Affairs Minister Tjahjo Kumolo sparked yet another controversy when he issued a regulation imposing stricter requirements for research permits. The home affairs ministry planned to first review a research’s potential negative impacts before granting a permit to the researcher. Many see the move as a reign on academic freedom as the government may be able to arbitrarily set the criteria for ‘negative impacts’.

The Malady of Papua

Young coconut shell was on the lunch menu of Fransisca Patatcot and her son on Saturday two weeks ago. Sitting next to each other on the wooden porch of the Santo Petrus Paulus Church, Pulau Tiga District, Asmat Regency, Papua, they snacked on the coconut shell. When the coconut shell was finished, she began eating the husk.
