Respect for the Court
MANY problems arise in the legal trial process. The courtroom proceedings are often disturbed by all sorts of trouble, from the defendant not appearing, witnesses and audience acting up, insults being directed at the panel of judges, to judge sleeping during sessions, law enforcements showing bad manners and even mobs damaging the court’s properties. This is what called the contempt of court.
The term is found in the general explanation of Law No. 14/1985 on the Supreme Court. Until today, though, Indonesia has yet to issue official law to govern the issue. Regulation on contempt of court is currently limited to article 207, 217, and 224 in the Criminal Code,
