The cabinet’s mismanagement has sent the garlic price to go through the roof. The inter-ministerial coordination and the market mechanism need to be fixed.

The soaring garlic price in the past three months is a clear attestation to the government’s chaotic bureaucracy. Early last week, according to the strategic food price information center, the price of imported garlic sold in traditional markets touched Rp100,000 per kilogram. The maximum garlic price at the same time last year ahead of Ramadan fasting month was Rp35,000.
