The bare-chested man—Lempad, of course—is standing in front of his house.
His verandah is full of stone sculptures, and behind his wrinkled body—he was around 80 at the time—you can see a half-finished bust, one meter high.
That was in November 1968. I was with a visiting English artist, touring around making sketches at various places, and we made time to go to Banjar Taman Kelod in Ubud. We introduced ourselves.
