The management of Komodo National Park’s wildlife tourism will not only impact the area’s famed prehistoric animals and local communities living in its larger islands. Critically endangered endemic birds will also be exposed to the loud noise of heavy machinery.

UNDER the heat of the sun in mid-November 2020, a Komodo dragon (Varanus Komodoensis) appeared in Komodo Wildlife Ecotourism’s concession area on the Komodo Island, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). The creature stuck out its tongue, wobbling as its heavy body it moved swiftly toward Loh Liang, a valley where Komodo dragons, boars and deer reside.
