IN the 2000s, KRI Nanggala-402 sailed from Surabaya in East Java to Tual in Maluku, for seven days and seven nights. Rear Adm. Iwan Isnurwanto, former Nanggala commander, said the submarine even participated in the Indonesian Military (TNI) Navy’s events. “During operations, we never surfaced,” Iwan told Tempo on Friday, April 30.
