THE government’s excuse for allowing Gag Nikel to continue mining on Gag Island, in the Raja Ampat Regency, Southwest Papua, left Arie Rompas puzzled. “The government said the permit is outside the geopark area,” said the Greenpeace Indonesia Campaign Team Leader on Tuesday, June 10, 2025. “How is it possible that Gag Island isn’t part of the geopark territory?”
