The Rush to Rewrite History

DISCUSSIONS on the mass rapes of May 1998 have reached the team tasked with rewriting Indonesia’s official history. Shortly after Minister of Culture Fadli Zon dismissed the rapes as rumors, the WhatsApp group of dozens of history editors erupted in debate. Unlike Fadli, many of them agreed that the rapes had indeed occurred.
