THE air was stifling inside a cramped 2-by-3 meter room on Jalan Tayu, Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Friday afternoon, August 29, 2025. A plastic ceiling fan failed to push away the heat. In that windowless room, Affan Kurniawan lay down each day. The 21-year-old online motorcycle taxi driver shared a mattress with his brother, Adam Al Rasyid, without a sheet, using two pillows without cases.
