IT takes Lidia seven minutes to reach her farm by navigating the Kayan River. After leaving the dock in Long Pelban cillage, Peso subdistrict, Bulungan Regency, the motorboat she rides roars against the current. On that Saturday afternoon, August 16, 2025, the river in North Kalimantan’s interior is calm. Its silvery ripples shimmer, reflecting the harsh sunlight.
