How a Police Patrol Led to a Boy’s Death

A member of the Maluku Police Mobile Brigade killed a 14-year-old student by smashing the boy’s head with a tactical helmet. He was dismissed from the force.

ON Thursday, February 19, 2026, Arianto Tawakal, 14, did not return home in Tual, Maluku. He was supposed to be with his older brother, NKT, 15. Instead, NKT came home alone around 7am local time, grimacing in pain from a broken wrist.

NKT returned with a friend, riding pillion on Arianto’s motorcycle. Sandy Tawakal, the eldest sibling, said only their father was at home at the time. The family soon received the devastating news that
