INDONESIA’s new Finance Minister, Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, has put forward a bold prescription to revive the country’s flagging economy. His diagnosis is simple: the slowdown stems from a financial system that has “run dry.” His remedy is to transfer some Rp200 trillion (US$12.4 billion) of state funds currently parked at Bank Indonesia to state-owned commercial banks or Himbara.
