THOMAS Djamaluddin may be the person most eager to see the Timau National Observatory come to life. Nestled on the slopes of Mount Timau in Timor Island, East Nusa Tenggara, the observatory was conceived during his tenure as Head of Indonesia’s National Institute of Aeronautics and Space (LAPAN) in 2017. But his urgency is fueled not just by a sense of legacy, it is also driven by the rising threat of space debris hovering above Indonesia.
