A TALENTED and Esteemed Journalist’ was the caption on Dominique Willem Berretty’s obituary in The Singapore Free Press, December 22, 1934. This eccentric Baron of Italian-Javanese descent, died in a Uiver plane crash flying from Amsterdam to Batavia (Jakarta). He left behind four children and a distinguished villa in Jalan Setiabudi, Bandung, called Vila Isola.
