Backstage, after two hours performing at the concert hall of the Sositet in Yogyakarta and still sweating from the rigors of playing the ghatam, Vikku Vinayakram and his son Mahesh spoke to TEMPO. Recalling the days he collaborated with such jazz greats as John McLaughin and Herbie Hancock, Vikku said "Yes, the ghatam goes well with jazz music." The ghatam, a traditional Indian percussion instrument, has achieved worldwide acclaim
