Tanjidor music was transferred from the Europeans to their slaves who had no knowledge of musical notation, except for their ample musical talents.

THE repertoire was played on western musical instruments. A pair of dancers, a slave girl and a guest of the master of the house, performed the tandak on the floor. The musicians, dressed in semi-military costumes and headbands, were slaves, but their rendering of the western repertoire was flawless.
