In the latest transition towards democratization, Myanmar's president signed a legislation to abolish the Emergency Provision Act. Campaigners now call for prisoners previously convicted under the law to be released.

MYANMAR has abolished a draconian 66-year-old law that was used by the previous junta to jail thousands of dissidents. President Htin Kyaw signed the legislation on Tuesday last week, abolishing the Emergency Provisions Act.
