April 3, 1941 The Iraqi nationalist group led by Rasyid Ali Gilani succeeds in driving the British force out of Baghdad City. Gilani succeeds because he receives support from German troops.

April 4, 1949 The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) is established.

April 5, 1585 As many as 6,000 freedom activists are killed in Harlem, the Netherlands, by Spanish soldiers under the orders of King Phillip II.
