JULY 11 marked the 600th anniversary of Zheng Hes maritime expeditions and the Chinese government spent two years to ensure that the anniversary would be celebrated in a big way, involving the Ministry of Communications, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Culture, the State Oceanic Administration, China Institute of Navigation and the Chinese Society of Oceanography.
