THIS month Sri Lankan armed forces decisively defeated the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) which had been described by the FBI in 2006 as the most ruthless terrorist outfit in the world.

In doing so, the small strategically placed Indian Ocean island of 18 million people has given the world a
