Hundreds of years ago, in his classic work Ekistic, Constantinos Doxladis classified cities according to their population: starting with polis (city), and then metropolis (great city), megapolis (mega city), ecumenopolis (continental city), until finally we arrive at–if the city is not managed carefully–a necropolis (city of the dead).
