Raised by the Quake
Salaut Besar and Salaut Kecil are located only 5 kilometers from the epicenter of the quake and tsunami that devastated Aceh last year. The islands were raised more than a meter as a result.

THE old man looked good at the helm, deftly maneuvering the motorboat between reefs in the waters of Teluk Sinabang. In a moment, MV Pulau Sumat sped along the coast of Simeulue Island west toward the islands of Salaut Besar and Salaut Kecil off the coast of Aceh.
