Indonesias Archipelagic State

The Indonesian archipelagic state was born from the Djuanda Declaration, despite widespread opposition from other countries.

Indonesias territorial sovereignty over the whole archipelagic region did not come easily. In November 10, 1946 the Dutch acknowledged the Indonesian Republics territorial sovereignty over Java, Madura and Sumatra in the Linggarjati Agreement.
