SIXTEEN fighter jets were purchased from the United States in April 1980, consisting of twelve units of F-5Es and four units of F-5Fs. These planes became the backbone of the Indonesian air space patrol. After operating for 15 years, several of the planes began to deteriorate. One had to be flown to California for repairs in 1995.
