Long after midnight, various Islamic scholars have been seen coming and going from the presidential palace recently. They are kiais, the Islamic elders from the mass Muslim organization Nadhlatul Ulama, which was headed by President Abdurrahman Wahid up until his election last year. And they appear to go in and out of Wahid’s office.

As Wahid is former NU chairman, perhaps it would be wrong to read too much into this. Wahid is known as a p
