Over 2,000 university students had gathered outside the fence of the MPR/DPR building.

The air seethed with the students anger and dismay. The students were shaken by the bloody incident which took place on May 12, 1998. Four of their fellow students from Trisakti UniversityElang Mulia Lesmana, Heri Hertanto, Hafidin Royan, and Hendriawan S
