THE meeting was suddenly convened in a room on the third floor of Building E, Department of Finance, Lapangan Banteng, Central Jakarta. Held on Tuesday afternoon last week, present at the meeting were top leaders from government institutions in the finance and banking sectors. They held this sudden meeting because the Joint Composite Share Index at the Indonesian Stock Exchange (ISE) had plummeted.

The situation in the exchange then certainly wa
