SUTISNA is not from a well-to-do family. On a daily basis, this man from Manis Lor village, Kuningan regency, West Java, sells mung bean porridge, boiled noodles, and soft-boiled eggs in the vicinity of Cempaka Putih, Jakarta. His income is moderate, about Rp2 million per month. Every month he sets aside 2.5 percent for the poor-due tax and one-sixteenth for candah (charity). “I do this for the community,” he said.
