THE Finance Minister ordered Bank Mandiri to release a Rp1.2 trillion deposit of PT Timor Putra Nasional, a company owned by Tommy Suharto. This is the second round of the shady dealings over the sale of the debt collection right over PT Timor to Vista Bella Pratama—a firm which is said to be connected with Suharto’s youngest son.

Here is a business transaction which is slippery, crooked, and full of intrigue. An air-conditioning technician was even appointed as a commissioner in Vista Bella.

THE state coffers have suddenly swelled. Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati ordered the release of Rp1.2 trillion of funds as loan collateral for PT Timor Putra Nasional in Bank Mandiri. Long dormant and the source of dispute, the funds were transferred in stages to a state account in Bank Indonesia (BI).

“All of the funds have been moved to a temporary account in the Department of Finance,” said Sri Mulyani, on Friday two weeks ago.
