Lapindo Promises
The Bakrie Group is willing to pay the long-overdue payment of the outstanding 80 percent compensation for victims of the Lapindo mudflow disaster. However, this does not mean that the compensation issue is settled. Thousands of Sidoarjo residents are still rejecting this payment scheme.

THE nine representatives of the victims of the Lapindo mudflow who were on Team 16 were greeted by cheers as they exited the State Secretariat office in Jakarta, on Wednesday evening last week. The team’s chairman, Kus Sulasono, and eight of his partners, hugged many of their fellow mudflow victims who had been waiting in front of the Presidential Palace in Central Jakarta.
