Cirebon Takes the Lead
As soon as Japan lost the war, Sjahrir wanted independence proclaimed as soon as possible. The proclamation was read out in Cirebon, two days before it was broadcast by Sukarno.

THE white monument with a sharp tapering tip and resembling a pencil standing upright in the middle of the road is located near the Kejaksan town square in the West Java city of Cirebon. A similar monument, around 3 meters tall, also stands in the grounds of the Waled Sectoral Police HQ in the same city.
