The influence of Sjahrir and Tan Malaka was tremendous at the beginning of the independence declaration. But it was only for a brief period.

THERE are actually many similarities between Sutan Sjahrir and Tan Malaka. Both had Minang blood, enjoyed a Dutch education, and refused to cooperate with the Japanese.
