THE STARS OF REGIONAL AUTONOMY

THESE are not prominent figures of history or regional autonomy. Unlike previous years, when we usually present special figures, in this Special Independence Day Edition we present the nine regions we selected as the stars of regional autonomy.

While the City of Solo is the most conducive for small vendors, the Regency of Purbalingga provides access to foodstuffs for poor residents, the City of Yogyakarta gives fast and affordable healthcare services, and the Regency of Musi Banyuasin provides free education from the elementary school to university levels. Then there are the City of Bau-Bau, Regency of Kebumen, City of Blitar, Regency of Lebak, and the Regency of Jember.

These regional achievements, despite having some shortcomings, increasingly convince us that Indonesia is truly moving in the right direction. Happy reading.

FOR 64 years this article has been in the constitution. In fact, the fourth amendment to the constitution made nine years ago added three more clauses to emphasize this state obligation. However, we never know or even check whether or not the state has performed its obligation to take care of those who have been sidelined.
