THE recommendation of Indonesia’s central bank (Bank Indonesia) to simplify the rupiah (redenomination) in 2013 has given rise to quite a few questions. Bank Indonesia is seen to be more interested in the currency rather than problems of inflation, overseeing banks and increasing credit.

Yet Bank Indonesia is going forward with its plan. According to Bank Indonesia Governor Darmin Nasution, the simplification of the rupiah must be carried out.
