Peddling Bills

Bills are often ‘peddled’ by corrupt DPR members. Not surprisingly, therefore, they were once almost raided by the KPK.

THE Poke Sushi Restaurant at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Jakarta was where a number of legislators met one night last March. They were members of the House of Representatives (DPR) Working Committee discussing the Currency Bill. Their agenda was to decide on two important articles in the bill, namely which agency would be appointed to purchase the currency paper and where to have it printed.
