A moustachioed man riding a black horse arrived at dusk galloping from Yogyakarta to pay a visit to Kiai Abdullah Anshor in Wonosobo, Central Java. He was Tjokroaminoto.

“Kiai Tjokro looked knightly,” said Haji Mahfudz on Sunday a fortnight ago. The villagers used to address the son of Kiai Abdullah Anshor as “Haji Maful.”
