Our year-end special issue diverges from the usual. Instead of our regular roundup of reports, we asked academics and analysts to review events in Indonesia during the past 12 months and for a reading of what's to come. Their commentaries in this special issue cover a wide range of issues, from politics to extremism and governance, and from the economy to national branding and special education. We also collaborated with a number of institutions to come up with vital statistics that could assist us in interpreting trends and events.
