The direct appointment of Geo Minergy as Pertamina's partner in exploiting four old oilfields at Cepu has triggered considerable protest. A note initialed by the Minister of State-Owned Enterprises, Dahlan Iskan, is being used as proof that the subsidiary of the Hong Kong-based Geo Corporation Ltd, got special treatment. In so doing, Pertamina stands to lose Rp37 trillion in potential revenues.

A LETTER bearing no letterhead began with a friendly "Dear DIS". Gunawan Hadi Saputro, the correspondent used his initials to address Minister Dahlan Iskan. The language was casual and the sentences disjointed. Many common words were abbreviated, such as yang (which), shortened to yg, or saya (I), to sy. Gunawan titled his letter, sent in mid-July, as 'Scavenging for the 200K Project'.
