Like his untidy hair, what Muhammad Yamin was thinking was diverging that evening. When evening engulfed Batavia (now Jakarta) on October 28, 1928, Yamin's thoughts no longer focused on the 2nd Youth Congress speakers' addresses.

A representative of the Sumatra Youth Organization or Jong Sumatranen Bond and conference secretary, Yamin, was preoccupied with the national language. At the congress, delegates from 10 youth organizations in the Dutch East Indies agreed on the concept of their national identity and fatherland. However, there was disagreement about what language they had in common.

By the end of the 1920s, Muhammad Yamin's speeches served as a guide for youths. All documents of the 2nd Youth Congress were seized by the Dutch and to this day no one knows their whereabouts.
