Before dawn on February 14, 1949, Lt. Col. Suharto quietly entered the Yogyakarta Palace. Accompanied by one of his men, he headed towards the Pawon Prabeyo (sultan's kitchen), where he was asked to change his shirt and trousers into uniform worn by the palace staff.
