Domestic Optimism Amid Global Uncertainty

Tempo is embarking on economic projections for 2016 amid Indonesia's sluggish economy over the past two years. The flagging economy and the tendency toward pessimism among market players seem to be setting in. If proper steps are not taken, the malady may trigger a crisis and culminate in system paralysis.

"This negative cycle must be countered," Darmin Nasution told the Tempo reporters who met him in September. An hour before speaking with Tempo, the coordinating minister for the economy stood by the President, along with the rest of the economy-related ministers. At the State Palace, the President announced the first economic policy package. Since then, other policy packages have been launched nearly every week. The fifth policy package was released on Friday two weeks ago, and more is set to come.
