The Language of the Sea
It was a half-moon over the coconut trees. Its light fell on the white sand of the beach. The southern wind blew behind a hill, breezing through Kasaraeng beach facing north. On the horizon were eight starlike flashes of light from the lamps of fishermen's boats.
Photographer Nita Dian and I had been on the beach located on Bukide island several hours earlier. Edikson Bawele, 66, a former kapitalaung, or village chief, accompanied us on the way to Bukide last month.
