What time will the interview end?" asked Fajri Sabti, when he visited the Alms House at Pekanbaru, Riau, three weeks ago. The final-year student of science and technology at Sultan Syarif Kasim State Islamic University in Riau had to hurry to Siak Hulu in Kampar regency, about two hours' drive away. Around 1,000 seedlings of jackfruit, petai, lamtoro (Leucaena glauca) and matoa (Pometia pinnata) had to be collected.

Along with his Alms House fellow volunteers, Fajri remained busy even though the rainy season had driven away the disastrous haze. The forest and estate had stopped earlier. What they're undertaking now is an attempt to replant the heavily scorched and ravaged forest land.
