A stack of documents enabled Tempo to expose massive corruption at the National Police Traffic Corps, after an illicit business collaboration went sour.
In early 2012, editor Wahyu Muryadi received a very strange call on his cell phone from an unknown number. The voice at the other end introduced himself as a lawyer. "We have interesting data on corruption in the police force, valued at hundreds of billions (of rupiah)," said the caller, as recounted by Wahyu, a former Tempo chief editor.
