High up on Mount Lanny Jaya, Rosa Dahlia, 29, fell in love. She surrendered herself to the mountain, valley and children's laughter in the Lualo District, Lanny Jaya Regency, Papua. Rosa has provided an oasis in an area that does not even have electricity by creating a comfortable library where the children can come and spend some happy time. "They come here from afternoon until night, reading books or just playing," said Rose, whose faraway hometown is Magelang in Central Java.

Rosalinda Delin, 44, has given people in the Belu Regency of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) some hope. She may be soft-spoken, but this midwife is tough as nails. She campaigned to change the tradition known as hasai hai, which is to 'smoke' a mother and her newborn for 42 days. It is a tradition that has made mothers and babies vulnerable to pneumonia and severe dehydration. Rough natural conditions and the public's initial rejection have not shaken Rosalinda's spirit. "I am working for the people," she said.
