Chew Kinwah had to learn the Indonesian dialect before playing in the film Cek Toko Sebelah (Go Check the Store Next Door). He also spent time observing ethnic Chinese shop owners.

This has been Chew Kinwah's motto in the 30 years of his career in cinema, TV and theaterwhich is why the 52-year-old has never refused an acting gig, including an offer to play in Cek Toko Sebelah in 2016. "It wasn’t hard to make the decision because the screenplay was good and felt important," said Kinwah.
