Keeping Watch Without an Old Friend

WWF’s work to save the Javan rhinoceros since 1962 came to an end when the environment and forestry ministry terminated its partnership with the organization. Now WWF can no longer work at the national park.

A metal fence splices through the forest at the center of the Ujung Kulon National Park. On the 1.7-meter-tall fence’s uppermost wire hangs a yellow sign warning of electrical current.
