A Mourning Village on a Rampage
The development of malls and luxury residential complexes is being accused as the culprit behind Jakarta’s floods. Many developers are ignoring their obligation to build public and social facilities.

AT around 9am on Tuesday, February 25, hundreds of people living around the Jakarta Garden City (JGC) residential complex stormed the AEON Mall in Cakung, East Jakarta. The luxury mall is located at the center of the JGC. The crowds came from the Rorotan and Cakung Timur administrative villages, both of which suffered from flooding.
