Jakarta’s city plan during the tenure of Governor Ali Sadikin prioritized green zones. He did not hesitate to sanction the son of his colleague who violated regulations.

CHAIRMAN of the Indonesian Architect Council, Bambang Eryudhawan, still remembers a speech by former Jakarta Governor Ali Sadikin at the Jakarta Design Center in mid-1997. When he spoke to around 250 architects, Ali expressed his disappointment in Jakarta’s city planning. The reason being, most of Indonesia’s green areas had been transformed into buildings.
